Make a Vintage Paper Ornament Just in Time for the Holidays!

     ​I found a few greeting cards from Christmas past in my vintage paper collection.  Since the messages in these cards didn’t have any sentimental value to me, I decided to subject them to upcycle treatment and transform them into ornaments!

     I bought papier-mâché ornaments, a Modge Podge foam brush set, Modge Podge Matte glue, Modge Podge Gloss sealer, and Modge Podge Sparkle for this project.  I used a hot glue gun, hot glue sticks, trim, stencils, acrylic paints, tassels, and jewel stickers to decorate the ornaments.
​     First, I painted the parts of the papier-mâché ornaments that would stay exposed with acrylic paint.  I used stencils to decorate the painted parts.

​     Then, I traced the shape of the ornaments on the cards.  I cut the card stock to the right size and shape to adhere to the ornament.

​     Next, I used a Modge Podge foam brush to apply Modge Podge Matte glue to the ornament’s surface.  I set the card stock in the glue and let it bond to the ornament.

​     After the glue dried, I painted the card stock affixed to the ornament and the acrylic paint with two coats of Modge Podge Gloss sealer to protect them and add some shine.
        Finally, I decorated the ornaments by hot gluing trim to them.  I further embellished them with tassels, jewel stickers, and Modge Podge Sparkle.

​     These beautiful vintage images are now on display on my tree instead of collecting dust in a box!
